Hi Suzanne - Personal Branding expert Dan Schwabel has weighed in on the issue with an article on Larry Bodine's blog: http://blog.larrybodine.com/2011/07/articles/marketing/dan-schwabel-brand-the-lawyer-not-the-firm/

Now clearly, a personal branding expert is going to be biased toward branding the individual vs the firm. But even so, he raises some good points.
