Law firm marketing spending

Altman Weil www.altmanweil.com Is a well-respected law firm management consulting firm.  In  2005 it published the findings of its 2004 "Survey of law firm economics."  The study examined the dollars spent on marketing as a percentage of gross revenue.

The national average of promotional dollars spent as a percentage of revenues in 2004 was 1.7%.  These figures do not include marketing staff compensation or benefits.

The salaries for marketing directors and chief marketing officers in larger firms was found to begin in the low six figures and topped out at $500,000.  In the article I reviewed, there was no definition of "larger firms," "smaller firms," or "promotional."  Perhaps these are defined in the full report.
